How’s it going everybody out there in cyber space?
Today we’re going to be covering how to match your energy with tasks. What I mean by that is, for example for me in the morning I have more energy in the morning so I like to schedule tasks that I believe to me require more energy so I, for example have drawing a whole page of a graphic novel, a rough version as long as it’s a complete drawing and it gets the message across, like I like it, it’s good. I have a whole bunch of other tasks scheduled throughout the day as well.
I don’t, for example, need as much energy in the middle of the day so I do the video don’t get me wrong, I’m still fresh at this point. It’s when I’m more tired and it gets to the end of the day that I do the emails, the social media and so on. That’s because if I’m starting my day with those tasks, I’m lowering my standard and saying “ It’s OK to be here for the rest of the day” so then I’m not going to get much done on that day. Instead when you start at the highest standard your body kicks into full gear and is like “Now I’ve got to get a whole lot done” so then you can’t help yourself, even if you want to chill, you feel like you’ve got to get a whole lot done. So keep that in mind.
Take a look at your whole day. Take a look at the morning, at the afternoon and at the evening, what are the tasks that require the most energy at each time? Everyone is different. Different people have different levels of energy at different times. When you wake up in the morning, when you get to the office, in your work clothes and start getting to work, well what are you going to do first? Are you going to go for the small nuisance tasks where there are many and you can never get them all done? …or are you going to go for a bigger task? This reminds me of a story.
A while back in my old place I had a lot of bugs and I was getting frustrated trying to clean them out one by one. I finally realized that if I had a clean environment in the first place, the bugs wouldn’t live there. So instead of trying to get rid of them and waste my time, I decided to focus on the main problem, and started to clean my room. So then no more bugs. I didn’t have to kill the bugs anymore, chase them nor throw them away. Not anymore, I just focused on the main problem.
That’s what you need to do as well. When you wake in up in the morning, the first thing you have to do is focus on the 1st main issue of the day, the thing that you think only you can do as well, properly and if no one else were to do it, it wouldn’t get done. After your morning ritual to relax and calm down; I meditate, but you do what it takes, I also stretch and get my body moving, which is good, you can find your own way, I then study a bit, something positive and helpful; that means something to your life and mission. From there you can work on that major task.
Forget about the emails, the twitter and the social media. All that stuff that is killing your time and setting your standard really low at the beginning, say “No!”Go for the thing that you know that only you can get done and then move onto the other stuff only after that and you’ll be surprised how many things you will want to do, you won’t be able to help yourself from doing things.
So I hope this helps you out and you can get more productive. For more information check productionhackers.net I’ll see you next time, this has been Sharif.
