How Binge Watching Should Motivate Producers

No matter how real an obstacle seems, with a long game and proper strategy, even David can defeat Goliath.

We’ve all heard it before; “binge watching,” a phenomena which was said to have really gotten notice during the age of Netflix, but that has existed in some form or another since ancient times. I’m here to state that this phenomena should actually motivate producers.

Oftentimes a producer may bail partway during a project when he or she feels there is a lack of enthusiasm

When we reflect on works from prehistory until today, those that get the most notice are usually larger in scope, cover more ground or are somehow connected to someone or something of greater magnitude. Oftentimes a producer may bail partway during a project when he or she feels there is a lack of enthusiasm, feedback or excitement from those around him; I’m saying when you consider the popularity of taking in a whole series, to study a massive magnum opus, you may come to realize that until that big project is actually brought to completion, those around you might not have the time to figure out what it is, invest any interest or even come close to looking at it when considering all the other stuff they’ve already queued up in their lives.

Destroying the Conditional Mentality

Without your even getting started… there is no chance for that dream to be evaluated against reality.

Many people make an excuse to not go for that ambitious dream they’ve had building up in their minds for years. They don’t get started because they excuse themselves from taking action when they haven’t been “given a sign” or when it “doesn’t seem realistic” or when “not enough people are doing it” or “not enough people seem to care.” However without your even getting started, let alone completing and seriously being committed to putting it out there, there is no chance for that dream to be evaluated against reality. Some of the best dreams and goals were never really brought to fruition by anyone else and so references were little to none, that did not stop the great innovators from sticking to it until the end anyway.

Other People’s Feedback Is Not As Important As Your Decision

Even very successful business people, very famous artists and highly respected scientists “risk” the chance of falling in the trap of dilution from external influences. An up-and-coming entrepreneur then has to be especially concerned about what is in the interest of his or her advisors before assessing their analysis and choosing the next step. It is all too easy to listen to everyone’s advice and come up with a compromise between everybody only to get nothing done of real potency or impact, later only to blame the mediocracy on the suggestions of others.

You can’t just let the ship sail without reigning in the steering wheel. Advisors are crucial to grounding you and getting perspective, but you still have to weed out the unnecessary parts, choose the parts that are most effective while leaving your ultimate vision uncompromised, otherwise the boat won’t be at your command but at the mercy of the next storm.

How Does That Relate To Binge Watching?

There is no risk without reward and loss is only an opportunity to learn.

You might wonder how excuses based on conditions or the potential dilution of your goals by advisors has anything to do with binge watching the entire series of Futuruma on Netflix. From the perspective of a producer, with a keen awareness of binge culture, neither excuses based on limitations perceived nor the potential compromises offered by others should sway you from at least trying your original ideas. After all there is no risk without reward and loss is only an opportunity to learn.

My Suggestion

Don’t give up! See your project to it’s full completion. Do not do it half way nor compromise because of outside influences.

However I do recommend you are sure you know what you want when you get started and you remain open to what can help you along the way while being just as vigilant as to what can get in your way.

No matter how real an obstacle seems, with a long game and proper strategy, even David can defeat Goliath.
